Happy Tuesday!
February has been flying by! It will be all about the Spring trends for the rest of the month but this month is
So I thought I would share some of my style reflections and some of my favorite Black Style Icons with you.
New York Fashion Week just ended and it is fitting that this fashion week was the most diverse I have ever seen. Natural hair was on full display -from cornrows to afros - different shades of melanin graced the catwalk and Lil Kim was the headliner at the Blonds runway show. This is like 😲!

When I was a little girl growing up we had the legend of Iman, but Naomi Campbell, and Tyra Banks were on the runway. They were the main girls in every show. Plus, it was almost unheard of seeing black designers at NYFW. This year they opened with Harlem's Fashion Row and Saturday was the Harlem Fashion Week showcase. It makes me feel happy that for my daughter, she will get to see more #blackgirlmagic then I did in fashion when I was coming up.
As I've gotten older and moved through my own style journey I have developed my own list of Black Style icons. Women whose style epitomizes beauty and class to me. Check them out below.
Lena Horne
Ms. Lena Horne, I first fell in love with her on Sesame Street, then the Cosby Show and I've loved her ever since. She was strength, sass, beauty and class personified.
Phylicia Rashad & Debbie Allen
When I was a kid, I admired these two women so much and I still do. They just ooze elegance. And they are pioneers and bosses.
Tracee Ellis Ross
I love Tracee's fearlessness in fashion. She wears what she likes and is unapologetic about it. I strive to have that confidence in not just fashion but life as well.
Michelle Obama
Ms. Obama is my shero, in style and in life because she is a brown girl like me, with a similar body type to mine who is brilliant and gorgeous!
Megan Markle
They call it the "Markle Sparkle" but she just has great classic style that I really love. Her wardrobe is what I try to accomplish with my style. It's just in a different price point. Lol.
