Releasing My Voice

Jun 14, 2020 0 comments
Since we entered quarantine my life has looked a little sideways as I worked to juggle my new normal. As a result, I haven't blogged in quite a while. If you follow me on social you will see I've been around but this transition has been more difficult than I anticipated.

I've been working to find the boundaries between work and home now that I don't have an hour commute to help me decompress and people watch. I didn't realize how much of my blog inspiration came from my daily commute to and from work. Seeing the trends on my fellow strap-hangers, being inspired by the New York landscape as I travel from Queens to Manhattan and back.

I've been consumed with so much work, with its new and increased responsibilities and priorities, and staring at a computer screen that in the last month I haven't felt much like blogging or posting pics or sharing deals. I was just learning how to survive. My motivation was gone.

And then George Floyd...

What a heavy time to be a Black, let alone a Black content creator. Having so much to say and not having the right words. Afraid to say the wrong thing for fear of offense but recognizing your voice is needed.

This moment snapped me out of my stagnation (in more ways than one) and helped me recognize I had been muting myself. Wanting to share but not sure this was the right platform. Wanting to be pro-black but not too Black. But the fact is this is my platform; my little slice of the inter-webs and I want to make it mean something and matter.

All of this has spurred me to want to do something; to create, to use my platform to create space and to grow my brand.

So after taking two weeks to breath and cry and hug my loved ones close and center myself I'm back to creating.

In this season, this blog and what I create, will look different. It will be different. It won't be as frequent. My posts will be more meaningful. You will see more personal stories, more of my opinion.

Still fashion just more of me. A Black Woman Creator and Owner with something to say and a wicked fashion sense.
